An Appeal

On November 1, 2005, our Membership Chairman, Pete Lacore, mailed correspondence to those members of the Association who were in arrears in their dues as far back as 1999.  Approximately 50% of the members answered.  This appeal is being addressed to those who chose not to answer.

We understand the usual circumstances surroundings one’s decision to delay keeping his membership current.  But please consider all the benefits obtained with one's membership:

The privilege and responsibility of being part of an organization that – in its own small way – is preserving Naval history

The opportunity to maintain contact with your shipmates thorough the Newsletter and the website (www.laffey.org

The opportunity to preserve – by means of the many work parties – the “tin can” that was home to you during an important             part of your life

The opportunity to honor your shipmates no longer with you, and for those who made the ultimate sacrifice during WWII

The opportunity to guarantee the continuance of our Association by involving younger family members in our activities.

The cost is minimal; the benefits, great.  If the monetary membership requirements cause a financial strain, please inform our President, Sonny Walker and something will be worked out.

Being one of the oldest members in the Association, I can say this from experience….in your “golden years”, it is nice to have individuals who you can call friends.  Apart from my immediate family, I count those in the Association as my best friends.
