This message from CTF 129 patting us on the back for a job well done during the bombardment of Cherbourg. I had to chuckle at the comment "seriously threatened by efficient enemy batteries". These words could have been replaced by "even though you were kicked in the butt..." The Germans had a bead on us and practically every ship in the task force was hit. But I guess we diverted their attention from the army units that were approaching Cherbourg,
