Damaged landing craft were repaired by the thousands during
the seven months of Ulithi's existence.  The lagoon's placid
waters sometimes contained more than 700 ships at a time;
mamy of these vitally needed aircraft and destroyer tenders,
plus untold dozens of specialized repair ships

Most popular vessel at Ulithi was LST-689l the anonymnours Fleep Post Office "some-
where in the Carolines" that delivered V-mail letters and packages by the thousands to
the more than 1.5 million sailors and GI's who passed through its sheltered lagoon.
