An Unusual Picture
On the evening of April 13, 1945, our ship received its orders assigning it to
Radar Picket Station #1. Early the next morning,
we replenished our ammunition at Kerama Retto from LST 582. As I recall,
the gunners were talking about having
taken on several rounds with VT (proximity fuses).
This picture was taken as we pulled away from the LST by Al Carkin, MOMM2/c.
He hung on to it for 60 years,
not realizing she was in commission until 1975 and that we had a living
Association.
A quick look at our ship would indicate we were in need of a field day!
This picture had a strange effect on me.
