Burnett's Letter Home (Page 5)
We also had 32 men dead and 60 hurt bad, so
we didn't have very much of the
crew left. Well there is not much more to tell except the tugs came out after us
and took us to port and we sure were glad to get there. Right now that
have the
ship tied up down at the city pier and we have open house for a week.
Yesterday
we has 12,230 people aboard and today then expect more.
Well one half of the crew is on leave now and we get 26 days, so I will hardly
wait
to get there. The first leave party is due back on the 21st of June.
So I guess we
will leave that day.
