Lawrence R. Delewski, 86, widower of Helen B. (Kajdan) Delewski, of the Villa at Morlatton, Douglassville, and formerly of Pottstown, died Wednesday, September 15, 2010.
Born in Reading, he was the son of the late Joseph W. Delewski and Cecelia A. (Boginski).
Mr. Delewski received his B.S. degree in English & Social Studies Education from Albright College in 1948 and received his M.S. degree in Special Education in 1955 from Temple University, Philadelphia, Pa. Mr. Delewski had worked as a special education and history teacher in the Pottstown School District for 30 years, retiring in 1985. While at Pottstown High School, he was involved in coaching wrestling, football and softball, and was a year book advisor and class sponsor for several graduating classes.
He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II having served on the U.S.S. Laffey DD 724 in the Pacific and European theatre where he was awarded a Purple Heart and a Bronze Star Medal.
He was a member of St. Aloysius R.C.C., Beech & Hanover Streets, Pottstown and a member of St. Aloysius Senior Citizens and A.A.R.P.
Surviving are a son, Larry P. Delewski, husband of Francine, of Douglassville; grandson, Jason Delewski, husband of Nina, of Exeter; granddaughter, Dana Delewski, and twin great-grandchildren, Chase and Claire. He was also predeceased by three brothers, Edmund, Raymond and Andrew Delewski.
A funeral Mass will be celebrated in St. Aloysius R.C.C. on Saturday at 10 a.m. Interment will be private. A viewing will be on Saturday from 9-10 a.m. at the church. Memorial contributions can be made to St. Aloysius R.C.C., 223 Beech Street, Pottstown, PA 19464.
